04  Is Dubai a Tax Free location?

Until July 2023, it was, but let us explain to you what the Tax Regime consists of. The UAE economy is generally considered the most liberal and diversified in the region. Dubai APPLIED a no-tax policy for almost all types of business activities, with the exception of branches of international banks, hotels and major oil and gas companies.

Dubai currently allows 100% repatriation of capital and profits. Dubai has no restrictions on the repatriation of capital and profits, yet many companies prefer to keep their money in the UAE due to its limited taxation policy. Furthermore, there is no foreign exchange control and there is a stable exchange rate between the US dollar and the UAE dirham (1.00 USD = 3.678 AED).

In general, it can be said that the owners of companies in free zones can breathe a sigh of relief with the tax reform since the great tax scheme is established for companies "in land" or within national limits and for residents of the country.Companies in free zones will now have to pay a 9% tax after deducting costs and salaries, and after having an exempt amount of about AED 375,000 (approximately USD 100,000).

However, there will be unlimited tax exemptions for companies that operate within a "qualified free zone." What does this mean? Companies where employees actually work in the Emirates. For these companies, changes are planned that will even make it easier to open bank accounts for their companies and although they may continue without paying taxes, they must compulsorily keep and present the accounting of their companies.

For our part, whether our business partners wish to open a branch of their company in a free zone or just make sales to Emirati companies established there, we are ready to be their representatives on site, facilitating the introduction of their products or services to the Middle East market.
